Adversary runs secure coding workshops so realistic its attendees keep practicing long after training ends

Cyber Security ยท 1โ€“50 employees

Adversary GmbH is a Vienna, Austria-based penetration testing and IT security consulting firm, specializing in application security through black-box web application penetration tests and source code reviews.

Challenge

As a penetration testing firm, Adversary wants its workshop attendees to work with real-world offensive and defensive scenarios, in whatever technology or framework each attendee actually uses. Building and maintaining that library of challenges themselves would mean immense overhead.

Solution

SecDim is easy enough to set up on both the admin and attendee side, with an immense list of ready-made challenges across different technologies and frameworks, letting Adversary run the exact workshop it wants for seniors and juniors alike, without building or maintaining any infrastructure.

Result

Adversary gets real-world offensive and defensive exercises in every framework its attendees use, without the overhead of building them. The team is even seeing developer activity continue after the trainings end, a sign of just how good SecDim's game loop is at keeping people engaged.

“SecDim is as close to the "real thing" of finding and fixing vulnerabilities in source code as possible to find on the market. I first used the platform for the DEFCON AppSec CTF, where I immediately was fascinated by the technical side of the platform: integrating with tools we use daily, the challenges themselves are without extra fluff, direct to the point, and show how hard it can be to take into account all of the possible edge cases. We're a penetration testing firm, and we use SecDim in our Secure Coding workshops with great success. It's easy enough to set up for a 1-day workshop and has challenges for different skill levels, allowing us to challenge seniors while not leaving juniors behind. What I love here is that each challenge exists in variants for many different frameworks. We're even seeing activity after the trainings, which shows how good the "game loop" of SecDim is.”
